Canes Venatici, although small, is easy to find nestling in the curve of the Plough handle. It contains the magnificent globular cluster M3 and a number of galaxies, among them the beautiful Whirlpool, M51. In the first photograph,the two brighter stars right of centre belong to Canes Venatici. Pointing the way from the right is the cluster of Coma Berenices. The second is moved to the right, so the brighter stars on the right belong to the Plough. The double star is the Mizar/Alcor combination.
