M108 is one of a number of galaxies in Ursa Major. It is a spiral but lies nearly edge on to us at a distance of some 25 million light years, but because of its orientation it appears brighter than it would if it was face on. The dramatically bright and tiny star like nucleus shown in the drawing correlates well with the photograph.
