Lying in Canes Venatici, M3 is one of the most stunning globular clusters. It is thought to contain over 44000 stars. The half metre telescope I used for this drawing resolved individual stars to the core of the cluster. Like most globulars it appears to radiate chains of stars which never appear quite so distinct on photographs.
