This cluster lies just above M7, low down in Scorpio near the Sagittarius border. Thus it is the most southerly but one Messier object. It is much smaller than M7 but still well worth a look. It is also known as the Butterfly Cluster. One of its members is the distinctive yellow star BM Scorpio, which is also a variable star.
